Launching A New Website? Here’s A Checklist For You

Website launch readiness checklist illustration

I’m not going to write a long blog post on this. I’m just sharing a checklist I made to help me remember everything that needs to be done when launching a new website. This is assuming you have already done the design and added your content. Also, some of the items specifically apply to hosting on Siteground.com and using WordPress, SEOPress Pro and Elementor Pro. You’ll have to adapt it to your on stack and/or software.

I do hope you find it helpful.

If you have anything to add to the list, make a comment.

Maybe I’ll add it and if I revise the post with your suggestion, I’ll give you a mention.

Post-Launch SEO & Content Checklist

1. Meta Tags

Homepage: SEO title & meta description

Key service/product pages: SEO title & meta description

Contact/About/Other pages: SEO title & meta description

Check for duplicate meta titles/descriptions

Include primary keywords and location (if local business) in titles

With WordPress, Elementor Pro & SEO Press Pro, all of that is really easy. When you open a page in Elementor, there’s a blue button by SEOPress where you can do all of the metas and schema

2. Schema Markup

Homepage: Organization or LocalBusiness schema

Main content pages: WebPage or relevant schema (e.g., Service, Product)

Blog post schema (if blog is active)

Breadcrumb schema

Test all schema using Google’s Rich Results Test

Same comment about how easy it is with with WordPress, Elementor Pro & SEO Press Pro. But your favorite tools work too.

3. Content Review

Proofread all pages for spelling, grammar, and formatting

Ensure strong sentence flow and clear messaging

Use primary keywords naturally throughout content

Headings follow proper structure (H1 > H2 > H3…)

Add internal links between relevant pages when it seems natural.

4. Images & Media

Replace all placeholder or low-quality images

Confirm all images are optimized (compressed, correct format)

Add alt text describing what’s actually in the image

Ensure any PDF/downloads have SEO-friendly filenames

I recommend you convert all images to WebP format before uploading them when building a website. However, SEOPress Pro and Elementor Pro each have an option to convert all of your images. It adds webp to the end, like picture.jpg.webp so personally, I don’t prefer that method.

5. Technical SEO

Set up Google Analytics and Google Search Console. If you want to make that easy, install Site Kit by Google.

Submit your sitemap/s to Google Search Console

Ensure robots.txt allows indexing of key pages. Actually, make sure that you have a robots.txt file.

Confirm canonical tags are set properly

Set up 404 page and check for broken links

Run crawl (Screaming Frog or equivalent) to uncover hidden issues

I always build a custom 404 page. In Elementor/Theme Builder you can customize it any way you like.

6. Is there any other pages you think should be added? If so…

Gather and organize content and media

Build using consistent layout and design

Add to XML sitemap

Link internally from relevant hub or category pages

Add SEO title, meta description, and relevant schema

Again, SEO Press makes this really easy to do, so I recommend it. If you haven’t tried it and want to, it will import all of the data from Yoast, RankMath and others so you won’t lose any of the work you’ve done.

7. Final Checks

Really go through the whole website on your mobile device and make sure everything works the way you want it to. Get someone else to try it on a different device such as iPhone and Android, Tablets, etc.

Test page load speed (mobile and desktop) I recommend you use GTMetrix rather than Google Page Speed Insights.

Run mobile usability check (Google Search Console)

Set up and test Google Analytics / GA4 tracking.

Verify Search Console ownership and indexing status

Unless you already covered that with Site Kit or manually, but a good idea to test it.

Enforce HTTPS and confirm SSL is active. If you’re on Siteground, the Speed Optimizer Plugin they include will handle that for you.

Clear all caches and test from private browser sessions or using incognito mode. Try different browsers as well.
